Dans la pharmacopée des États-Unis (USP), la détermination du taux d'azote est décrite à la rubrique 461 [3]. Différentes techniques de titrage y sont indiquées. La Ph. Eur. décrit un titrage en retour en présence de la solution d'indicateur mixte au rouge de méthyle et l'USP décrit un titrage potentiométrique de l'acide borique.
