Purification of cannabinoids by SFC

Natural substances, with their diverse chemical composition, hold great promise in the development of new therapeutics, fragrances, and flavors. In particular, the removal of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component, to levels ranging from 100 to 1000 parts per million (ppm), is essential due to the stringent regulations surrounding THC in most countries. CBD purification is the key to achieving the desired THC levels, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. By employing the Sepiatec SFC instrument manufactured by BUCHI, along with the specialized PrepPure CBD column, not only can THC be effectively eliminated, but other natural compounds derived from hemp plants can also be separated. This application note describes the production of high-quality CBD extracts for various applications.
