BUCHI Young Scientists NIRAward

The BUCHI Young Scientists NIRAward is awarded to young scientists, who have worked during their diploma or doctoral thesis in the field of near-infrared spectroscopy achieving outstanding results. The contributions will be judged by an international jury of recognised experts.

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2011

The 2011 prize had been awarded to Manel Alcala Bernardez from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain.

He received the prize for his work “Quality by Design Approach of a Pharmaceutical Gel Manufacturing Process, Part 1: Determination of the Design Space".

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2010

The 2010 prize had been awarded to Zhenqi Shi  from Duquesne University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He received the prize for his work “Application of Monte Carlo Simulation-Based of Near-Infrared Diffuse Reflectance. Part II: Photon Radial Diffusion in NIR Chemical Images”

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2009

The 2009 prize had been awarded to Monica Casale from the University of Genoa, Italy. She received the prize for her work “An Alternative Common Basis for Wavelet Compression of NIR Spectra and its ability in classification and authentication problems of food samples”

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2008

The 2008 prize had been awarded to André Krell Pedro from Unilever Brazil Ltda. He received the prize for his work "The Use of NIR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics for Determining the Shelf-Life Products".

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2007

Steven M. Short is the winner of the NIRAward 2007. Mr. Short  from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, USA received the award for his work "Determination of Figures of Mreit for Near-Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy by Net Analyte Signal Analysis for a Four Component Solid Dosage System".

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2006

The 2006 prize had been awarded to Dr. Sumaporn Kasemsumran from the Kasetsart University, Bangkok and Dr. Yi Ping Du from the East China University
of Science and Technology, Shanghai. They received the award for their teamwork entitled „Selective removal of interference signals for near-infrared
spectra of biomedical samples by using region orthogonal signal correction “. It improves the predictive ability of PLS models for biomedical components e.g. in blood serum.

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2005

Fabiano Gonzaga reported about his work on near-infrared emission spectroscopy based on an acousto-optical tuneable filter, which represented a nice set of novel applications of NIR spectroscopy.

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2004

The 2004 prize had been awarded to Akifumi Ikehata from the Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan for his work on “Surface Plasmon Resonance Near-Infrared Spectroscopy”. Mr. Ikehata is working with Professor Ozaki, one of the former awardees. This technique opens the chance to increase the sensitivity of NIR spectroscopy very much, which will open new application fields in the future.

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2003

The 2003 prize had been awarded to Satoru Tsuchikawa from the Nagoya University in Nagoya City, Japan, and Heinz W. Siesler from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Essen, Germany, for their investigation of the diffusion process of Deuterium-labelled molecules in wood.

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2002

The 2002 BUCHI NIRAward had been given to two teams. Yukihiro Ozaki, Jian-Hui Jiang and Roumiana Tsenkova from Kwansei-Gakuin University in Kobe, Japan, have shown that a special chemometric technique allows to characterize the state of health of cows using NIR spectroscopy.
The other part of the prize went to a research team in the U.K.: Fiona Clarke, Mathew Jamieson, Donald Clark and Stephen Hammond from Pfizer together with Roger Jee and Anthony Moffat from the School of Pharmacy, University of London. They are rewarded for their work on visualizing pharmaceutical formulations using FT-NIR and Raman Microscopy.

BUCHI NIRAward Winner 2001

The 2001 prize had been awarded to James K. Drennen III, Arwe S. El-Hagrasy and Frank D'Amino from the Duques University and Hannah R. Morris from the Carnegie Mellon Research Institue both in Pittsburgh, USA, and Robert A. Lodder from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, USA, for their work entiteld "Near Infrared Spectroscopy and Imaging for the Monitoring of Powder Blend Homogeneity".
